When pain becomes chronic

Når smerter bliver kroniske - Seniorpleje

Ditte Alici |

Many people here in little Denmark live with excruciating pain every day, and unfortunately, there is still a lot of taboo associated with this.

Some ailments are visible and are due to a physically manageable cause, e.g., a fracture due to a car accident or work injury. These pains are often easier for people to relate to.

Other ailments are "invisible" and can be due to pain and inflammation of our joints, muscles, nerves, and connective tissue. A large part of this group, unfortunately, consists of chronic pain patients and people with fibromyalgia. They have to contend with their daily pain and also with a world that doesn't always understand them and their pain.

Both groups live with their daily pain, and it is not always possible to get medication that can optimally relieve the pain.

-Unfortunately, the fact is that ALL pain impairs our quality of life and affects our daily lives. It also often affects our sleep, and it often ends in a vicious cycle. Chronic pain is difficult to treat, and most often only a part of the pain can be alleviated. Doctors can very rarely cure pain.

As a nurse, I have often faced this dilemma with my patients and clients, and it is a difficult issue for all parties. Some of my experiences from practice I also use in my advice on choosing the right aids, as many different issues come into play when trying to find the perfect aid.

Often, the right aids can make everyday life more tolerable and provide a slightly better quality of life. For example, by getting as much rest as possible and supporting better sleep, as well as ensuring the body is relieved throughout the day.

Some of the pain issues I most often encounter as a nurse and owner of Seniorpleje are the following:

-Pain in the neck/back due to herniated discs

-Pain in legs and feet due to reduced circulation, edema, and reduced mobility, e.g., for wheelchair users

-Pain from the tailbone and sit bones, e.g., due to a fractured tailbone and inflammation in the area.

-Pressure sores on the buttocks, tailbone, shoulders, and back. This is often seen in people who are bedridden and have difficulty moving, as well as in many wheelchair users who sit in the same position all day.

What I can help you with is finding the right aids and products, such as pressure-relieving seat cushions and mattresses.

- If you or one of your loved ones is in one of these situations, you are very welcome to call me on mobile 40563841 for advice and guidance, and to get a thorough review of our products that suit you.
