What is the difference between rubber ramps and threshold rails?

Threshold rails and rubber ramps are two different solutions that can both improve accessibility in the home, but they have different characteristics and applications. Threshold rails are fixed rails made of either metal-colored aluminum or darker anodized aluminum. They are permanently mounted with glue or screws into the floor and are used as a replacement for traditional thresholds. When you choose to install a threshold rail, you first remove the old threshold, creating a smooth transition between floors in different rooms. This solution is both safe, permanent, and elegant, and it ensures that you no longer have to worry about tripping over high thresholds.

Rubber ramps, on the other hand, do not require any tools or intervention in your existing door frame. An outdoor rubber threshold ramp can be easily placed over a threshold to create a smooth transition if there are height differences/unevenness, without having to remove the existing threshold.

To choose the right rubber ramp, simply measure the width of your door frame and the height of the threshold itself. As a general rule, you should choose a ramp that is 2-3 mm lower than the height to the top of your door frame. The reason is that there must be room for your door to open and close without resistance.

We offer rubber ramps in many different widths and heights, and it is possible to customize them if your door frame has special dimensions. If your door frame is slightly narrower than the desired rubber ramp, it can be easily cut to size with a utility knife or saw.

What is an anodized threshold rail?
