Life as a wheelchair user can sometimes be filled with challenges that can make your everyday life difficult.
Our nurse Ditte is used to working with the small and big challenges of everyday life, and she has many individual aids and proposed solutions.
Some of the daily challenges can be:
1) You may have difficulty getting around, as not all shops/hairdressers etc. have ramps for doorways, so you can get in and out.
2) You sit many hours in your wheelchair, and unless you can independently move as needed, you are in the risk zone for pressure sores and collapse in your back muscles.
3) You often sit very still in the same position, which reduces your circulation/blood flow. You risk getting cold and catching a cold, as you don't stay warm through movement in the same way as someone who walks normally.
DITTE'S TIPS FOR THE 3 ABOVE CHALLENGES:
1) It is possible to bring portable door tracks and ramps, especially if you have your own car or accessible van. You can get several different types of foldable tracks that can be placed over most internal doorsteps (regardless of height), so you can move from room to room.
In addition, we have some very smart lightweight portable wheelchair ramps that can be folded up and taken anywhere. So you can always go to your favorite shops, visit friends, or go on holiday in a summer house. You can see our many different proposed solutions here:

2) If you experience pain or discomfort after a long day in a wheelchair, there are many small tips to help. One of the most crucial points for your sitting comfort is the cushion you sit on. Most wheelchairs come with a standard seat cushion. Unfortunately, this is a "standard cushion" and is not very pressure-relieving.
Therefore, I would recommend that you get a really good pressure-relieving wheelchair cushion. The type that suits you and your needs is always very individual, and it is therefore recommended that you contact our customer service for free health professional advice.

3) It is important that as a wheelchair user, you are extra careful to dress according to the season and weather conditions. There is nothing worse than getting caught in a rain shower or icy cold, especially when sitting still. The cold can go right through you.
At Seniorpleje, we have an exclusive selection when it comes to clothing. Whether we are talking about rain capes, ponchos, warm wheelchair covers, or soft, lovely lambskin boots.
Our products are all personally tested and approved by our nurse, and the quality is always top-notch. You can see our entire large selection of clothing below.
