Do you find it difficult to sit down due to pain around your tailbone?
Unfortunately, many people experience daily tailbone pain. In the long term, this can have significant human consequences and affect your quality of life.
Many people typically feel it when sitting down, getting up, and bending forward. Some also notice it when walking. Many will also experience pain during bowel movements, notice changes in their balance and posture, and severe discomfort during sports or physical activity.
-This may be because the tailbone is located deep in the pelvis, just behind the large intestine. The tailbone is also extremely vital for all the small nerves and muscles that control the pelvis, balance, and back muscles.
The causes of tailbone pain can be many, but often occur after a difficult pregnancy, a complicated birth, kicks, accidents, sedentary work, or a fall backward. It can be a fracture, inflammation, or displacement. In some cases, there may be cysts, inflammation, and in men: prostate problems.
Both men and women can suffer from tailbone pain, but it is primarily women, as women's tailbones are slightly more prominent and exposed. With sedentary work, poor posture and pressure on the pelvis can increase your pain and make your tailbone stiffer and more protruding.
If you have daily pain for an extended period, as a nurse, I recommend that you get thoroughly examined by your doctor and have X-rays taken.
There can be many causes, and it is therefore important that you get the cause of your pain diagnosed so that an action plan can be made for you.
The symptoms, meaning the pain, will very often subside or disappear over time, but it requires you to take precautions and make sure to protect and relieve the area so that it can rest.
All people are unique, and so is their experience of pain. Therefore, these tips are merely a generalization, and you may need individual advice. My nursing professional advice to you is as follows:
1) See your doctor for pain evaluation and X-rays.
2) Talk to your doctor about possible pain-relieving injections and stool softeners if you tend to have hard stools or constipation.
3) Rest physically more. Avoid sex, sports, running, and jumping until your tailbone is calm.
4) Buy a good pressure-relieving coccyx cushion that can help you provide rest and relieve the area. When you relieve the area for an extended period, your tailbone will often "heal," and irritation and inflammation will subside.

5) Find a skilled Osteopath who is trained in specific problems with bones and the tailbone. They can help you if it is misaligned, and alleviate pain caused by muscle stiffness and incorrect sitting postures, etc.
It is important that you always first ensure that X-rays are taken, as this can make it much easier for an osteopath to give you the correct treatment.
-What I, as a nurse, can help with is to offer you advice on aids and pressure-relieving coccyx cushions that can relieve pain and create calm, allowing your tailbone to heal over time.

We now have a large selection of seat cushions specifically designed for those with tailbone problems. Both firmer cushions, soft cushions with a layer of soft cooling gel, and wedge cushions with shock-absorbing gel.
Common to all cushions is that they all have a special cut-out at the back, which ensures that neither the tailbone, rectum, nor sciatica touch the cushion or the surface the cushion is on.
At Seniorpleje, we are experts in this field, and you are always very welcome to call or write if you need individual advice on pain relief and the choice of optimal seat cushions or other pressure-relieving products.
Hope these 5 tips can help you a bit and provide inspiration on how to alleviate your tailbone pain.
